Tokyo Architecture – Old & New

Despite Tokyo being a modern metropolis and the epicentre of Contemporary Architecture in Japan, there are still pockets of Tokyo where traditional Japanese buildings can be found. These are mostly shops or houses with many accommodating traditional Japanese craft activities such as sembei makers, kimono tailors, shamisen makers to name a few. The juxtaposition of the old adjacent the new creates an incongruity that makes Tokyo one of the most interesting cities in the world for an architect to visit.
