Japanese women lost the final game in the soccer tournament at the Olympic Games against United States, 1-2, and are going home with the silver medals.
American player Carli Lloyd scored twice – once in each half – to give the U.S. a 2-0 lead that was too difficult for Japan to overturn, even if Yuki Ogimi scored in the 64th minute.
American goalkeeper Hope Solo made several spectacular saves and Japan’s Shinobu Ohno and Nahomi Kawasumi could not finish, despite their nice efforts.
More than 80,000 people attended the final at Great Britain’s Wembley legendary arena.
The U.S. has won three of the four previous Olympic tournaments for women, including the last two.
Japan has frustrated the Americans in last year’s World Cup final, which they won at penalties.
