This year’s edition of a global rankings for top universities placed the University of Tokyo on the first spot in Asia, while other Japanese institutions slipped down in the list.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings, which lists world’s top 200 universities, placed University of Tokyo in the 27th place, three spots higher than last year.
All remaining four Japanese universities in the rankings fell behind, compared to last year. Japan remains, however, the Asian nation with most universities present in the top 200 rankings, Kyodo reported.
Kyoto University was now placed on the 54th place (from 52nd last year), the Tokyo Institute of Technology was listed on the 128th place (from 108th), Tohoku University on 137th (from 120th), and Osaka University on 147th (from 119th).
