A new Harry Potter train started working at the beginning of this month on the JR Sakurajima line. It is providing access to Universal Studios Japan from Nishikujo Station in Osaka.
The train was introduced on the first day of February and it anticipates the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park at Universal Studios Japan, which will take place during the summer of next year.
The train wrap, made by West Japan Railway Company, features images of Hogwarts Castle, as well as the trio of Harry, Hermione, and Ron, the three main characters of Harry Potter film series.
The planned Harry Potter theme park will bring to life the entire world and characters of the movie series. It will feature replicas of Hogwarts Castle and Hogsmeade Village, while rides and attractions will open at the park, according to the international press.
Universal Studios Japan plans to increase the total number of visitors, boosting it to 9 million from the current 8 million. By building the Harry Potter theme park, USJ would like to attract more international visitors.
The total costs in order for the park to be functional will be of Y45 billion ($482 million).
