Japan develops alcohol-free wine for cats

Apparently Japan cannot get enough of its cats. After opening tens of cat cafes and designing special houses dedicated to the cuddly felines, Japan developed recently a “wine exclusively for cats”, despite the fact that most of the felines do not drink liquids for taste.

A Japanese pet lifestyle company called B&H Lifes has come up with the idea to create a unique wine called Nyan Nyan Nouveau (or meow Nouveau). Unlike the wine that people drink, this cat wine does not contain alcohol. Instead, it is made with juice from Cabernet Franc wine grapes, Vitamin C and catnip, which gives it the taste of wine.

Despite the fact that cats do not drink liquids for their taste, B&H Lifes hopes that cat owners will buy it for their furry friends to celebrate special days – and the upcoming Beaujolais Nouveau season. Japan is the world’s second-largest consumer of the wine after Germany, according to the international press.

The wine was made in limited edition, so the cat owners should better hurry, as B&H Lifes is selling only about one thousand bottles, each of them going on sale for about Y399 (around $4).
