There is a Japanese island called Tashirojima that has about 100 residents living in. Around the 1950s, the human population was a lot closer to being 1,000. Most of the residents had cats as their house pets. While the human population started to decrease, their pets still continued to live on. The residents who are left on the island found themselves being overrun with adorable cats and kitties.
A cat-lover taking a picture of a cat. Also, a cat-loving culture had started with shrines that were dedicated to the adorable cats.
Another island called Aoshima is also overrun with adorable cats. The island only has 15 residents. The good thing is veterinarians visit the island to give the cats and kitties a checkup.
This is probably the cutest infestation ever. If you have a travel bucket list, visiting these two islands will definitely be worth it.
