Japanese national soccer teams continue their quest at the Olympic Games, with the men squad already reaching quarter finals after getting a new victory in the second match against Morocco.

Japan defeated Morocco 1-0 with a late goal scored by Kensuke Nagai and has a maximum six points after the initial surprise win against Spain. The Europeans, big medals favourites, continued their poor performance in the second game, lost against Honduras (0-1), which means they are already eliminated from the tournament.

The Japanese women national team got only a point against Sweden in the second game of the group, but is in a very good position to advance to quarter finals. The game against Sweden ended 0-0 despite a nearly continuous domination by the Japanese.

The two teams previously met last summer in the World Cup’s semi-final, won by Japan 3-1. Japan then went on to the final where it beat the U.S. at penalties and became the new world champion.

Japan has now four points in the Olympics group, same as Sweden and will play the third game against winless South Africa, on Tuesday, while Sweden faces Canada.
