Mc Donald’s Japan will run a campaign called “Enjoy! 60 Second Service” from January 4 to January 31. According to the campaign’s description, the customers will wait one minute at most to receive what they have ordered during the hours of 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
If they wait longer, they will receive a coupon for a free McDonald’s burger of their choice.
All customers will receive, however, a coupon for a free small-size ‘Premium Roast Coffee’.
3,300 Mc Donald’s restaurants in Japan are included in this campaign. To prove the campaign is not just about empty words, the employees of every participating restaurant will be required to flip over an hourglass measuring one minute each time they receive a new order.
McDonald’s is famous for providing good services in Japan and it seems like the staff will be on the top of their game for the duration of this campaign, the Japanese press comments.
But on the Internet, people have already come up with ideas for cheating the system. One user who claims to work for McDonald’s writes that at smaller restaurants with less staff, you’re almost guaranteed to wait for more than a minute if you order a ‘Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese’.
According to his logic, if you use this method to score a free hamburger coupon and then use that to order another Double Quarter Pounder, you can, in theory, create a never-ending cycle of free McDonald’s hamburgers (until the promotion ends in February).
