Radiation comparison to angry wife taken back by nuclear agency

The officials of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency decided to cancel a page on the institution’s website where radiation was described using a comparison with an angry wife.

The comparison sparked a public scandal, according to Kyodo News. An official of the agency told the Japanese press, “we would like to apologize for creating unpleasant feelings.”

The article in question was trying to explain in plain language the difference between radioactive material, radioactivity and radiation.

“Wife’s screaming to her husband can be compared to radiation, her agitated state to radioactivity and the wife herself to radioactive material,” it said.

According to information which was still available on a cached version of the deleted page, the agency was trying to provide easy to understand information, especially to women, as they had a “lower level of understanding of nuclear power”.
