Sony has released details about the upcoming launch of its portable gaming console Vita in the United States. The gadget will debut on the US market on February 22 giving consumers access to the popular video streaming service Netflix.

The Music Unlimited service of the Japanese company will also be available for the American buyers of the Vita, while the users of the version with telecom network connectivity will be able to choose between two data plans by operator AT&T.

The console has a 12-centimetre LED touch screen, GPS, two cameras, and comes as Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity models. It was launched in Asia in the second half of December and sold about 500,000 units since, the company said.

The main rival of the Vita is Nintendo’s 3DS portable game console. It was launched almost a year ago and Nintendo had to cut its price by about a third to $170 in a successful attempt to increase sales.

The PS Vita will launch in the U.S. at $299.

Netflix is a provider of on-demand Internet streaming media established in 1997 in the United States. It has more than 20 million clients worldwide.
