Wrestling champion Saori Yoshida will carry the flag of the Japanese delegation at the opening ceremony of the London Olympic Games on July 27, while javelin champion Yukifumi Murakami will be captain of the team, announced the Japanese Olympic Committee.

Yoshida is after a hat-trick of Olympic titles after the gold medals won in 2004 and 2008 in the 55-kg category. The 29-year-old wrestler said that she was nervous, but happy to have the honour of carrying the Japanese flag.

She never lost a game at the Olympics or in any international or Asian individual championship. “If I wrestle the way I can, I won’t lose. That’s the way I feel going to London,” she said, previously.

Yukifumi Murakami, on the other hand, won the men’s bronze medal at the 2009 world athletics championships and was also captain of the team at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.
